How good is Alesis?
The Alesis Nitro Mesh is a very entry-level kit. The sounds you get included are not the greatest. In fact, I think they sound pretty poor. But as I’ve mentioned before, it is a great entry-level kit that serves a need for many beginning drummers or those needing a reliable drum kit to practice quietly with.

Unfortunately, they hit financial trouble and filed for bankruptcy in 2001.. They were bought by InMusic, the same company that bought Akai, and neither company has returned to the innovative products they were developing just before being bought out.

The Surge also has a larger snare drum pad and dual-zone toms. Those added extras make the Surge about $200 more expensive than the Nitro Mesh.
