Is it cheaper to build or buy MTB?
A custom build will cost more than a prebuilt bike but it will be exactly what you want. If you have the time and the money you will be better off building it with the parts you want. You can buy a pre built but then you will be spending more money when you want to upgrade.
Can you build your own MTB?
Yes, you can build a mountain bike yourself. Now, unless you are a mechanical engineer and metals expert, don’t try to craft the frame and components on your own. Instead, pick and choose every component, all the way down to the bar grip and seat post clamp. Then put all the parts together.

How much does it cost to build a mountain bike?

A brand new middle-of-the-road trail bike will set you back two to three thousand dollars. A basic used build for a ride can run anywhere from $1,200–1,500, with the right choices.

How long does it take to assemble a MTB?
Our average build time is 35 minutes if all goes well. Longer if we have a “problem child” or a high end build where nearly everything requires assembly. The only things that come installed on your high end road bikes is the rear wheel, crankset and headset. Everything else from cables to grip tape has to be installed.
Is it better to build a bike or buy one?
As a rule of thumb, if your budget is under $1000 or even $1300, component- and quality-wise you will get a much better deal buying an assembled bike. Especially if it’s a previous-year model. In fact, comparing an assembled bike to a DIY build will result in a pre-built option being cheaper in 99% of cases.
