Why is it called Furnace Creek?
Furnace Creek. The name either derives from the extreme valley heat or because of the spring-fed waters that flow from the ground at 82-85 degrees and feed the resort’s pools. The name was first used in 1860, then given to Furnace Creek Ranch in 1889 by the Pacific Coast Borax Co.

What happened to Furnace Creek Inn?
The former Furnace Creek Resort will be called the Oasis at Death Valley. The resort includes a 66-room inn, which opened in 1927 and is rated Four Diamonds by AAA. The new name will be the Inn at Death Valley. The 224-room ranch becomes the Ranch at Death Valley.
