What is Engelbreth-Holm-Swarm mouse sarcoma?
The Engelbreth-Holm-Swarm (EHS) sarcoma is a rich source of both individual basement membrane components and Matrigel. Maintenance of the EHS tumor in mice and its subsequent harvesting for the preparation of Matrigel are described.
What is the purpose of Matrigel?

Matrigel, also termed Cultrex or EHS matrix, is prepared from an extract of Engelbreth-Holm-Swarm mouse tumors. It has been used as a model of basement membrane, which contacts with the basal layer of epithelial cells, endothelial cells, and fat and smooth muscle cells.
What is Matrigel assay?
The matrigel plug angiogenesis assay is a simple in vivo technique to detect the newly formed blood vessels in the transplanted gel plugs in nude mice. The matrigel matrix is derived from the engelbroth-holm-swarm (EHS) mouse sarcoma, and its composition is comparable to the basement membrane proteins.
What is GFR Matrigel?
Corning® Matrigel® Growth Factor Reduced (GFR) Basement Membrane Matrix, 10 mL, is suited for applications requiring a highly defined basement membrane preparation. Available in standard GFR, High Concentration (HC), and Phenol Red-free formats.

What is tube formation?
The tube formation assay is a rapid and quantitative method for determining genes or pathways involved in angiogenesis. First described in 1988, the principles underlying this assay are that endothelial cells retain the ability to divide and migrate rapidly in response to angiogenic signals11-13.
What is Geltrex made of?
The major components of Geltrex™ matrix include laminin, collagen IV, entactin, and heparin sulfate proteoglycans.
What is basement membrane extract?
Cultrex Basement Membrane Extract (BME) is an extracellular matrix hydrogel that has been used extensively in general cell culture applications to study cell attachment, proliferation, and invasion. Key Benefits: Ideal for general cell culture application. Polymerizes at 37°C to form a reconstituted basement membrane.
How do you store Matrigel coated plates?
Coated plates can be stored at 2-8 °C for up to one week (sealed with Parafilm™ to prevent dehydration) before use. Make sure that the fridge shelf is level as well. We do not recommend using plates that have areas of uneven Matrigel® coating or plates where the Matrigel® has evaporated.
How is fibronectin secreted?
It is secreted by various cells, primarily fibroblasts, as a soluble protein dimer and is then assembled into an insoluble matrix in a complex cell-mediated process.
