What is cSt fork oil?
cSt stands for “centistokes”, it’s a unit of viscosity. VI is “Viscosity Index”.
What oil do you use for rockshox?
Rockshox Suspension Oil 15WT 32OZ 1 Litre.

Can I use motor oil in rockshox?
I would not recommend doing it. Motor oils contain lots of additives that could have unknown side effects in a fork. Plus the advertised weight of lubricating oils is not an exact measure of viscosity. See here, scroll down to “Rockshox oil”.
What is viscosity index fork oil?
The Viscosity Index is very important in a suspension oil. “The viscosity index (V.I.) of an oil is a number that indicates the effect of temperature changes on the viscosity of the oil. A low V.I. signifies a relatively large change of viscosity with changes of temperature.
Can you use Fox oil in RockShox?
Depends on what you’re using it for and what damper you use. If it’s a sealed damper and you’re using this oil for the lowers, then it’s fine. If you’re using an open bath damper where the oil from the lowers is also used for damper oil, then you do not want to mix them.

Can you use engine oil in forks?
Check the manual for your forks though. Yer 130ml of 5wt in dampers and a 20/30ml of 15wt every where else. If you want to ruin the performance of your damper, by all means use motor oil in there. Use shock oil for anything that is damping, and motor oil for the splash oil in the lowers.

Can you use motor oil in MTB fork?
If you want to ruin the performance of your damper, by all means use motor oil in there. Use shock oil for anything that is damping, and motor oil for the splash oil in the lowers. Depending on the shock it is usually 5wt for the damper and 15wt for splash oil.
What does cSt mean in hydraulic oil?
The viscosity of a hydraulic fluid is measured in Centistokes (cSt) and usually at temperatures of 40°C or 100°C. The value will always have the temperature next to it as without this the value will be meaningless.
What does cSt stand for in viscosity?
The SI unit for kinematic viscosity is one meter squared per second and is equivalent to 10,000 St. Usually, centistokes (cSt) is used (1 cSt = 0.01 St = 1 mm2/s). The absolute or dynamic viscosity is equal to the kinematic viscosity, multiplied by the density of the fluid.
How do I know what fork oil to use?
Instead, look for a fork oil with a high viscosity index (VI). A higher VI indicates better resistance to viscosity changes throughout broad temperature swings. That translates into consistent shock performance and feel despite the ambient and operating conditions. And a consistent ride equals a more effective rider.
Can you use engine oil in Forks?
What weight is Fox shock oil?
FOX Float rear shock oil, 5W.
What oil can be used for fork oil?
All 26.5″ all the time! The Super Tech brand of automatic transmission fluid (ATF) sold at wally world for a few bucks a quart works well as a 10wt fork oil substitute. I’ve been using it in my motorcycle forks for years.
Will motor oil work as fork oil?
ATF is close to most 7-10w oils. If you must, use that as your damper oil. For straight lubricating oil (like in the lowers of a Fox 40), motor oil is just fine.
