APICS stands for American Production and Inventory Control Society. This acronym is the original name of a professional society’s now known as APICS, The Association for Operations Management. APICS was founded in 1957 as a resource for supply chain and operations management professionals.

In 2017, it partnered with Deloitte for its student case competition, standardizing an event that now has a global reach. At the annual conference that just ended in Chicago this past Tuesday, October 2, APICS officially changed its name to the Association For Supply Chain Management(ASCM).
